Life at the shore can feel exclusive and luxurious. Breathing in the salty air of the beach not only brings a fresh feel to each person who does it, “ocean air also contains negatively charged hydrogen ions that help absorb oxygen and balance out serotonin levels, resulting in more energy and diminished depression.” This can help people with respiratory problems–such as sinusitis, congestion, or asthma– feel refreshed and cleansed even after just twenty-four hours near the beach.

The beach is a place where people feel calmed. Nichols, scientist and author of “Blue Mind,” suggests.” People near the beach have the opportunity to visit the beach much more often than those who don’t, which results in more positive effects for all those people.
People involve themselves in numerous outdoor activities at the beach. Some of these activities include walking or running on the beach–which is more difficult than walking or running on many other types of ground floors–surfing, swimming, skateboarding, rollerblading, and biking. Running on the beach, for example, can strengthen the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in your feet, toes, ankles, calves, and quads much more than running on a firmer surface. These all can burn hundreds, even thousands, of calories every hour. Many people partake in these activities for numerous hours in a row during the summer months and weekends, increasing the benefits of the activities exponentially.
Living near the beach is not only positive for the mind, but it is positive for the entire body. People who live near the shore or even visit the shore get to partake of its many health benefits. Taking the time to be active in a relaxing setting proves itself to be highly beneficial for one’s health.
